The Sun Rose Residences

Forty homes behind a hotel on the Sunset Strip — a 2021 building on its second name, and the third marque removal this register has found in a fortnight.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · property confirmation pending

The government record is the cleanest source this card has. The entitlement for the site — the Sunset Time Project, lead agency the City of West Hollywood — describes “redevelopment of four contiguous parcels totaling approximately 2.0 acres” comprising “149 hotel rooms, 40 residential condominium units, 5 low-income affordable housing units”. That independently confirms the forty residences and the hundred and forty-nine keys, and it adds five affordable units that no commercial source mentions at all. Whether those five sit inside the building, inside the condominium regime, or are let rather than sold, is not established.

And it settles the city. Forbes' list places this in Hollywood. It is in the City of West Hollywood, a separate municipality, on the authority of the entitlement record itself. The residences are 8420 Sunset Boulevard; the hotel is 8430.

The building is on its second marque, and the first one was a hotel group's. It opened in 2021 as Pendry Residences West Hollywood, beside the Pendry West Hollywood hotel, co-developed by AECOM Capital and Combined Properties for a reported half a billion dollars. The Pendry flag — Montage International's — was dropped in 2025; the hotel relaunched as The Sun Rose West Hollywood, independent, affiliated to Preferred Hotels & Resorts' L.V.X. Collection; and the residences took the hotel's new name. So the name on this card is a neighbour's, not a licence, and the register flags both the brand and the portability fields accordingly.

This is the third marque removal the register has found in two weeks, after a Caribbean resort that carried Kempinski for three years past its reflagging and three hundred estates in Vancouver standing over a hotel that is now a Hyatt. None of the three was found by a guard, because a marque leaving a building is not an inconsistency inside the record — it is the world changing underneath a record that remains perfectly consistent with itself. Three in a fortnight is a rate, and the register has no instrument that watches for it.

What the two sides do publish, they publish in agreement. The hotel describes “an exclusive collection of just 40 private homes” “tucked behind The Sun Rose hotel”, of roughly 2,000 to over 6,000 square feet, two to four bedrooms, beside “149 luxury guestrooms, including 37 stunning suites”; the residences' site says owners “enjoy preferred access to The Sun Rose Hotel”. Architecture by Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney, with Cuningham Group credited; interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Sales resumed on 20 February 2026 with the final twelve homes, “offered from the low $4 millions” — published on a site that also states it is marketed exclusively by an agent, so the register records it as a figure of uncertain hand. Three price records are claimed in press narration with no source and are not published here.

Named in Forbes Travel Guide's inaugural VERIFIED Luxury Residences collection, 2026, among the seven managed by FirstService Residential, whose own release is careful in a way worth noting: it announces a designation and does not claim a Forbes Travel Guide rating of the property.

Who it is not for

Not for a buyer who reads the name as a hotel brand: it is the independent hotel next door's name, and the building's previous marque was removed in 2025. Not for anyone needing a clean inventory — the city's record shows five affordable units whose relationship to the forty is unestablished.

19.10.2026 · Forbes verified thirteen residences; eleven of them are not branded residences, and one of them is the tower that sank

Two faults of the register's own, found in the same day's work. PR-D-491 was issued twice, four days apart, by two correct procedures: once by hand, from the highest number in the registry, and once by the intake, from the next number in the workbook where codes are actually reserved. Neither was wrong on its own terms and nothing compared them — the same shape as the inherited fields, in a second field. code_guard.py now fails the build on a repeated code and reports any registry code the workbook never reserved. And The Sun Rose Residences turns out to be the third marque removal found in a fortnight: it opened in 2021 as Pendry Residences West Hollywood, the Pendry flag went in 2025, and the name on the card is now the independent hotel next door's rather than a licence. Three in a fortnight is a rate, and the register still has no instrument that watches for it.

The register publishes the facts and the rule; it does not say whether any purchase qualifies. Eligibility attaches to a sale, not to a building, and the register is not immigration counsel.
