Aman New York Residences

The Crown Building is a 1921 Beaux-Arts landmark, and Aman took the top of it. Warren & Wetmore — the architects of Grand Central Terminal — built it for August Heckscher at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. It carried the first home of the Museum of Modern Art, and was designated a New York City landmark in May 2024. The conversion, led by Vladislav Doronin's OKO Group, put an 83-suite hotel from the seventh floor up and twenty-two residences at the pinnacle.
The register's interest is the arrangement rather than the interiors. These are hotel-linked residences in the strictest sense — same building, same operator, hotel service delivered into the home, and a dedicated residential lift bank that is not the hotel's. That configuration is the one Aman has since repeated in Tokyo, Bangkok and Miami Beach, and this is where it was set.
Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, Aman's collaborator for more than twenty years, handled the conversion. The tension is the whole point: Aman's warm minimalism inside a Gilded Age shell that speaks a different vocabulary entirely. What the buyer holds is a deeded apartment plus an Aman service arrangement — the brand is present as operator, not as a licensed name, and that distinction is the most consequential fact about any branded residence.
Who it is not for
Not for a buyer who wants a house with land: this is an apartment in a landmark tower, and the privacy is vertical rather than spatial. Not for anyone expecting the resort Aman — a Fifth Avenue address keeps an urban rhythm, and the quiet here is engineered, not found.
