Burj Assila Residences, Shangri-La Jeddah

Jeddah Corniche. Shangri-La. The residences of Burj Assila, the sail-screened tower that opened four years late.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · property confirmation pending

A tower screened like old Jeddah's mashrabiya, set end-on to the Red Sea so its balconies deepen as they rise: Burj Assila, by Perkins+Will for Assila Investments, holding Shangri-La's first hotel in Saudi Arabia and the Burj Assila Residences, which Shangri-La was engaged in 2015 to manage and serve. Agreed for an opening in early 2018; opened in 2022.

Almost every figure changed between the agreement and the opening. The residences were 122 in 2015 and 116 at opening; the hotel 242 and then 236 rooms in the contracts and 220 rooms, suites and apartments when it opened; the tower 65 storeys and 240 metres, 64 storeys and 260 metres, or 65 storeys and 264.7 metres, completed in 2021 or 2022, depending on the source. The register records the opening-day counts as current.

Who it is not for

Not for a buyer who needs the residences described in their own right: every source describes them only as the hotel's neighbours.

22.09.2026 · Saudi Arabia, run 2 — Jeddah's Corniche, and a hotel that is not a home

Three towers on the Jeddah Corniche and a villa town in Riyadh. Four Seasons Private Residences Jeddah at the Corniche — sixty-four homes in two towers joined by bridges eight storeys deep — was announced for 2024 and is now due in 2027. Burj Assila Residences, in the sail-screened tower of Shangri-La's first Saudi hotel, opened in 2022 against a 2018 promise, with nearly every count changed on the way. The DAMAC Residences at Al Jawharah carry Versace Home's interiors on the top ten floors of a tower launched at Harrods in 2011; the register keeps that licence apart from Palazzo Versace.
