Domaine de Hauterive

Cologny, Switzerland. Unbranded. A Swiss president's manor on the lake, and a basement built underneath it.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · property confirmation pending

CHF 56,840,000 in 2021, for about 1.8 hectares at 18 Quai de Cologny — a manor house with dependencies and an orangery, once the home of Gustave Ador, President of the Swiss Confederation. The buyer was subsequently identified as the banker Jacob Safra, and a major underground redevelopment was later approved.

Historic owner, lake address, manor estate, banker dynasty and a modern reconstruction underneath. Few records here carry all five, and the underground works are the Swiss form of the Belgravia basement — the only direction left to build when the surface is protected.

Cologny is Switzerland's dearest primary-home commune at about CHF 42–43,000 per square metre, and produced ninety-five sales above CHF 8 million between 2017 and August 2026 — more than any other Geneva commune.

Who it is not for

Not for a foreign non-resident: Geneva carries the full Lex Koller regime and this is a primary-home market. Not for anyone expecting to alter it above ground — the value here is being added below.
